Cave of Saint Georgios

Cave of Saint Georgios

It is located in the foothills of the Hill of Agios Georgios and it is ranked among the most remarkable caves in Greece. It covers an area of over 1000 sqm and 300 m total length of explored paths, consisting of two "floors". With extremely rare decoration of reef material and numerous stalactites, stalagmites and compositions, it is not only of unique beauty but is has paleontological interest since in the cave were found more than 300 samples of fossilized animal bones in a very good condition, aged from 10,000 to 100,000 years. Near the cave operates a municipal cafeteria which hosts the Museum of Paleontology on the 2nd floor.
