The International Marathon \u2018ALEXANDER THE GREAT\u2019 and the International Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon are held annually in Thessaloniki during the months of April and October respectively. Both events are members of the World Federation of International Marathons and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races and are constantly included in the Greek and international calendar.
\nOnly for 2021 and due to COVID-19 restrictions, the two sport event will be conducted both at November 21.
\nThe above two major sporting events were recently awarded as exceptional sports tourism operators by the Macedonia \u2013 Thrace Travel Agents Association, winning the category \u2018Best Thematic Sports Destination\u2019 of the competition \u201cPremium Tourism Awards 2021\u201d. At the same time, the «Marathon of History», of April 14, 2019, was named the 8th best marathon in the world in the overall evaluation among 476 certified marathons, as well as the 4th best in the field of security, in the independent research of «THE SOLE SUPPLIER». This distinction was published, among other things, on the authoritative and world-wide website «FORBES», advertising Thessaloniki and Greece all over the world.
