International Museum Day

„Museums, Sustainability and Quality of Life“

The 18th of May is dedicated each year to a specific theme related to museums and the protection of cultural heritage. The theme of the celebration of International Museum Day 2023 is „Museums, Sustainability and Quality of Life“.

This year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) wishes to highlight the role and power of museums to contribute to achieving the goals of sustainability and improving the quality of life of society as a whole.

By showcasing cultural and natural heritage, as well as contemporary creativity, museums make an essential contribution to improving the quality of life. As trustworthy institutions with a high status in society as a whole, they have the potential to promote sustainable development objectives by supporting actions to tackle climate change.

Entrance to the Museum is free of charge.

The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki participates in the celebration with the following activities:

10:00-12:00 Adult workshop „Collage with sand“
12:00 Thematic guided tour of the temporary exhibition „ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF THESSALONIKIS: 60 YEARS|60 STAGES“
17:00 Thematic tour of the temporary exhibition „ARCHAIOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF THESSALONIKI: 60 CHRONIES|60 FIGURES“
18:30-19:30 Music-theatre performance „Pausilipou and Tυροlois corner“
