Dimitria Festival 2025- “Art – Diagonios and the museum that never happened”

The exhibition “Art – Diagonios and the Museum That Never Was” offers a look into the recent cultural past of Thessaloniki, centered around two important visual art collections. More than 400 works are presented in the exhibition: the visual art collection of TECHNI – Macedonian Artistic Society is housed at the Teloglion Fine Arts Foundation of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), while the Dinos Christianopoulos Collection, which includes paintings, prints, and photographs, is located at the AUTh Central Library – Information Center.

From the 1950s through the 1990s, TECHNI and DIAGONIOS, each in its own scale and scope, were not opposing or conflicting initiatives. On the contrary, their innovative, fruitful, and productive activities showed that they moved in parallel. This is the core message of the exhibition: a presentation of a rich cultural reserve, serving as an example of what it means to contribute to education and to the city. This, after all, was their shared founding principle and mission.

The exhibition is a co-organization of the Teloglion Fine Arts Foundation of AUTh, the Region of Central Macedonia, the Municipality of Thessaloniki – Dimitria Festival, and the AUTh Library and Information Center.

It is held under the auspices of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Konstantinos A. Tasoulas.

The exhibition is overseen by Alexandra Goulaki-Voutyra, General Director of the Teloglion Foundation and Emeritus Professor at AUTh, with curatorship by Dr. Miguel Fernandez Belmonte, art historian.
