A.M. Rituals/take your time, Maria Xinopoulou, Thessaloniki

Metamorphosis Gallery (11 Christou Smyrnis St., Thessaloniki) invites you on Thursday, March 13, at 19:00, to the opening of the exhibition A.M. Rituals/take your time by Maria Xinopoulou.

In her latest series of works, consisting of paintings and drawings, Xinopoulou explores the private space of personal rituals, aiming to capture both vulnerability and the beauty that lies within it in the same moment.

As Teta Makri notes in her text for the exhibition: “The girl, holding the transparent screwdriver in her hand, turns the screw of the story she is telling us. A tiny turn, almost imperceptible. Just enough for the horizontal to get dizzy, the vertical to slightly lose its balance, and the diagonal to gain small ripples. (…). Is this allowed? In art, everything is allowed, and everything is possible, as long as we are given the end of a thread that will lead us somewhere else, a little beyond here, a little farther from now.”

Additionally, Areti Leopoulou writes in her text about the works: “The very act of painting, with its methodical layering, mixing, and revision, reflects the cyclical nature of daily routine. The dialogue that Xinopoulou opens with her painting style and the themes that concern her bridges the material with the intangible, serving as a mirror to her adventurous and magical microcosm.”

Maria Xinopoulou lives and works in Thessaloniki. She has presented her work in 3 solo exhibitions and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. She participated in the Inspire Project 2023 of MOMus, the Thessaloniki Museum of Contemporary Art. She has curated artistic performances and the play The Fourth Dimension for the National Theatre of Northern Greece. Currently, she is part of the Cabinet des Curiosites exhibition at the Alex Mylonas Museum (Athens), curated by Yannis Bolis.
