“Aspects of Figuration in Contemporary Greek Painting” Collection of Iordanis Kotzaivazoglou | THESSALONIKI MUNICIPAL ART GALLERY

On the occasion of the current exhibition “Aspects of Figuration in Contemporary Greek Painting” — featuring works from the Collection of Iordanis Kotzaivazoglou — the Thessaloniki Municipal Art Gallery is organizing a parallel event titled “A discussion about painting with Giorgos Rorris.”
The event will take place on Friday, 28 November, at 19:00, at Casa Bianca, with free admission.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear the acclaimed visual artist Giorgos Rorris talk about painting and his work, engage in conversation with him, and exchange ideas in an interactive, open-to-the-public meeting.

About Giorgos Rorris:
Giorgos Rorris was born in Kosmas, Kynouria, in 1963. He studied Painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts with professors Panagiotis Tetsis and Yiannis Valavanidis (1982–1987). He continued his studies at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Leonardo Cremonini (1988–1991), with scholarships from the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation and the P. Bakalas Charitable Foundation.
He collaborated with the Center for Letters and Arts “Apospi” (1996–2002), and since 2002 he has been working with the Art Group “Simeio,” teaching painting.
In 2001, he was awarded the “Young Painter under 40” Prize by the Academy of Athens. In 2006, he received an honorary distinction for his work from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. In 2022, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, awarded him the medal “Golden Cross of the Order of Honour.”
From his first solo exhibition in 1988 until 2017, he maintained a long-term collaboration with Medusa Art Gallery. His works are housed in significant public and private collections. He lives and works in Athens.

The exhibition “Aspects of Figuration in Contemporary Greek Painting” is organized by the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Thessaloniki Municipal Art Gallery, in collaboration with the International Hellenic University. It features selected works of contemporary Greek figurative painting from the collection of Professor Iordanis Kotzaivazoglou, Dean of the School of Design Sciences at the International Hellenic University.
