August Full Moon at the City’s Monuments
The Ministry of Culture is once again organizing the August Full Moon Events, coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage, offering free admission to selected archaeological sites on the night of the full moon, Saturday, August 9, 2025.
We invite you to enjoy the magical light of the 2025 August Full Moon, on the night of August 9, in archaeological sites, museums, and monuments across the country — now in its 25th year.
Macedonian Tomb at Derveni (“Makridi”): The monument will remain open from 19:30 to 24:00.
Byzantine Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in Hortiatis:
A three-part cultural event will take place, including:
- Archaeological storytelling about the Byzantine monument, combined with readings of Byzantine hymnographic texts (19:30–21:00).
- Musical performance featuring acoustic interpretations of urban art music from Constantinople and traditional music from the heritage of Asia Minor, in dialogue with poetic readings dedicated to the full moon (21:00–22:00).
- Participatory activity focusing on the oral folk traditions of Hortiatis and the monument (22:00–24:00).
Co-organized by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Thessaloniki Region and the Municipality of Pylaia–Hortiatis.
