€5,00CHRISTMAS CONCERT OF THE TFMS CHILDREN-YOUTH CHOIR
The roots of carols go back to the time of Homer and antiquity. Back then, we had the custom of eiresione, in which children brought home the message of good luck and fertility by singing wishes and hymns. Then, between December 15 and January 15 which coincides with the ancient month of Poseidon, children sang in the streets holding the eiresioni, an olive or laurel branch decorated with fruits and woolen threads (eiros or erion = woolen thread).
Similar songs can also be found in Roman times when the Romans and Greeks celebrated Saturnalia or Kronia and Kalends. Naturally, the official Christian church reacted strongly to these pagan remnants. Thus, the carols were transferred to all Christian countries in the Christian holidays and customs older than Christianity, an integral and main element of the festive events of the 12 days from Christmas Eve to Epiphany.
