Christmas market of Thessaloniki.

A few meters above the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos, a Christmas Market is expected to open, which will “serve” -among other things- traditional sweets and hot drinks, Christmas gifts and toys, handmade jewelry and many other items, in order to stimulate shopping in the center of Thessaloniki and at the same time to transfer the festive mood to residents and visitors. In cooperation with the Commercial Association of Thessaloniki, 39 wooden houses will be set up in the section of Aristotelous Street enclosed by Metropolitan Gennadios, Philippou, Chalkeon and Egnatia Streets. The Christmas Market will last for approximately one month, from December 7 to January 5, 2024.

The Commercial Association of Thessaloniki has undertaken, in cooperation with the municipality of Thessaloniki, the setting up of the Christmas Market, where, in addition to the commercial houses, there will also be 4 houses for the associations and NGOs that present their social and charitable activities. There will be tables and benches for the convenience of visitors. Among the products to be sold on the site will be snacks and sandwiches, syrups, melomakarona, kourabiedes, diples and almond bread, traditional pies, doughnuts and pierogies, caramelised nuts and hot drinks, spoon sweets and jams, Christmas gifts, toys and books. Moreover, delicious street food (hot dogs, pizzas, souvlaki), snacks and cold sandwiches are also present to make your stroll the ultimate Christmas destination that will satisfy the taste buds of adults and children alike. The Commercial Association of Thessaloniki is responsible for the “construction” of the Christmas Village, the electricity supply and security of the facilities, as well as the cleanliness of the area. The festive decorations and themes, artistic events, activities and entertaining games will again be at the heart of the festive season in order to create a festive atmosphere for the whole city.

Yannis Plutarchos will accompany the Christmas event with a magnificent open concert, performing many of his great hits.

He will be accompanied by his children Giorgos and Katerina Kakosaiou, while Dimitris Chrysochoidis will make a guest appearance during the concert.

The traditional festive concert that accompanies the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Aristotelous Square will take place with free admission for the public.

The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, will light up the impressive, towering tree in Aristotelous Square on the afternoon of Thursday 7 December 2023, which will illuminate the hearts of all visitors for the Christmas 2023 – New Year 2024 holiday period.

The Christmas tree was decorated with 100,000 low-energy light bulbs and the 17-metre tree was transported from Paleochori, Halkidiki.

On the same day, Thursday 7 December 2023, the Christmas Market at Aristotelous behind the statue of Venizelos will start operating.

The other municipalities of the urban complex of Thessaloniki are slowly starting to enter the Christmas rhythm, and from next week they will start to make known the decoration they will choose and the festive events that will take place.
