Devotional Week

Thessaloniki is revealed daily through the small and large fragments of its eventful history, treasuring its rich heritage as part of a continuous process of renewal, embracing the past while transforming it into a creative present.

One such significant effort, in collaboration with the city’s creative entities and under the auspices of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki, is the initiative to revive the “Week of Worship,” which was reintroduced in our city last year.

The Municipality of Thessaloniki, with the support of the Directorate of Culture and Tourism, will organize the “Week of Worship” again in 2025, one week before Holy Week, with free admission for the public.

Byzantine chants, European music choirs, soloists, recitations, theatrical readings with well-known actors, musical ensembles, the Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, and gastronomy inspired by the spirit of the days, will contribute to expressing the religious sentiment of Thessaloniki’s residents and visitors. These artistic performances, with their high quality, will create an atmosphere of deep reverence within the historic Byzantine holy churches of Thessaloniki, which have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
