“Exhibition ‘Alexandros Plomaritis. Becoming a Ghost'”

The body is completely and multidimensionally present in Alexandros Plomaritis’ artistic journey, and as such, it “stars” in the exhibition titled “Becoming a Ghost”, which will be presented at MOMus–Experimental Center for the Arts (Warehouse B1, Pier A, Thessaloniki Port) from September 11 to October 25, 2025. Through his performances for the camera, Plomaritis body wanders in public and private spaces, sometimes exposed, sometimes integrated, and sometimes out of place in the respective spatial and social fabric.

His body is captured in the architectural ruins of Brussels – abandoned monasteries, churches, and mansions, carriers of a lost aristocratic and religious identity. His body narrates stories from other places, his body returns to the familiar place – Thassos and Mount Pangaion – and finally, his body stands in the middle of the sea, atop an old machine gun post, holding an open black umbrella as a silent poetic reference to René Magritte. Through the performativity of his body, Plomaritis raises timeless questions about identity, homeland, loss, and otherness, while simultaneously focusing on the activation of the body as an archive, a site of inscription, and a bearer of memory, historical continuity, and political conflict.

In the exhibition “Becoming a Ghost”, through photographs, videos, and installations, Alexandros Plomaritis explores the performativity of the body as a spectral entity – a body that exists but is not recognized, that is inhabited but not visible, that is silent but performs its presence, that does not integrate but survives.
