Loxandra Ensemble Live at Kafodion Hellenic in Thessaloniki

The music collective “Loxandra” (Loxandra Ensemble), returns to its hometown, Thessaloniki, at Kafodion Elliniko, with fresh material from their new album, as well as selections from their older works.

Loxandra Ensemble is a music collective founded in Thessaloniki, Greece, and has been creating in the field of world music since 1997 until today.

Its musical origins and quests are the urban music tradition of the Romanians of Istanbul and Smyrna, (Meyhane-Caf Aman), the gypsy music tradition, the folk music of Greece, the classical Ottoman and modern urban and folk music of Turkey, the sounds of the Arab world, Sephardic music and the musical idioms of the Balkans.

Since the end of 2016, “Loxandra” has been in creative transformation, with no limitation in repertoire, with original compositions by the members of the group and a willingness to open up to new trends.

The fruit of their work is their latest album entitled “Loxandra in transition”, released on April 20, 2018 by “Dalit music” and reached in May of the same year at Number 3 in the World music charts Europe.

At Kafodeion in Thessaloniki, “Loxandra” will present material from their latest album “Loxandra in transition”, as well as from their earlier recordings!
