The 500m² Art Gallery, inaugurated in 1975, aims to promote and spread contemporary Greek art, with emphasis on contemporary Northern Greek Art. It is housed at the top floor of the Society of Macedonian Studies Theatre.
The collection includes more than 900 painting, sculpturing and engraving artworks, most of the above created by Thessalonian artists, as well as Greek and foreign ones. The approximately 200 artworks exhibited at the three galleries, are a detailed insight of the basic trends in Northern Greek contemporary art and, in more general terms, the evolution of contemporary Greek art from late-19th century until today.
Apart from the permanent collection, the Art Gallery hosts periodical exhibitions, either of great Greek contemporary artists as individuals or as members of artistic groups.
The Society of Macedonian Studies is a non-profit organization whose sole objective is to research, study and publish every issue oriented to Macedonia.
