In the late 19th – early 20th century, the Russian community founded its own hospital in Thessaloniki. The opening took place in 1909. After the Russian Revolution, the building was abandoned and converted by the Greek authorities in hospital for the Greek refugees from Russia, later in Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic and in Public Maternity Hospital in 1939. Today, it houses the Historical Archive of Macedonia.
