It was built in the period 1900-1902 according to designs by Italian architect Vitaliano Poselli and was used as barracks of the Ottoman army. In 1916 it became the seat of the “Provisional Government of National Defence” under the command of Eleftherios Venizelos.
Nowadays it houses the headquarters of the ΙΙΙ Army Corps.
