One of the most characteristic spots of Thessaloniki is the Sintrivani fountain, located in the square bearing the same name. It was a gift by Sultan Abdul Hamit to Thessalonians in 1889. It’s worth mentioning that on the day of its inauguration, cherry sorbet flowed from the fountain! Most of the upper part of the present fountain is an accurate copy of the original one.
