It covers the distance between Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia and birth-place of the great king, and Thessaloniki, the modern capital city. It bears the symbol of Alexander, thus it’s not only a great international sports event, but also a race throughout history, commencing from the ancient Greek civilization up until today. It is an eastbound, relatively easy marathon, of small height variations and very few turns and twists. The International Marathon is a member of International Association of Marathons (AIMS), fully included at its annual timetable, while it is the one warranted with the prerogative of bearing Alexander’s name.
