27th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival 2025

The 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival will take place from March 6 to 16, 2025, with the aim of informing and raising public awareness about critical issues of our time. This grand celebration of documentary cinema brings the best documentaries from around the world to Thessaloniki, along with cinematic surprises, important guests, tributes, and parallel events.

The 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival will honor two prominent documentarians. French filmmaker Nicolas Philibert, who dares to dive into the depths of the human psyche, and American director and photographer Lauren Greenfield, who exposes the decline of American nouveau-riche society, will be in Thessaloniki to present their films to the audience.

A constant goal of the festival is also to support Greek productions—both fiction and documentary films—through specific measures, actions, and initiatives within the festival’s program and Market. Greek documentaries play a starring role in the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. Each year, dozens of Greek films are showcased, highlighting the trends of local production and presenting the work of both established and promising filmmakers.

As part of the festival’s annual activities, the following tributes will be hosted at the Thessaloniki Cinematheque:

  • 08-09/02/2025: A spotlight on the work of Greek director Giorgos Karypidis.
  • 22-23/02/2025: A tribute to overlooked and pioneering masterpieces of Japanese cinema, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan.
  • 03-08/04/2025: A major tribute to cinematic comedy.

The next “Fundamentals for Kids” screenings are as follows:

  • 23/02/2025: Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) by Wes Anderson.
  • 13/04/2025: Wolfwalkers (2020) by Tomm Moore & Ross Stewart.
