City of Thessaloniki Actions for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
On the occasion of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the Municipal Gender Equality Committee, is planning the following informational, supportive, and symbolic actions — public awareness events:
• Tuesday, 25 November 2025 at 17:40
The artwork “Umbrellas” by Georgios Zongolopoulos will be illuminated in orange, as part of the UN global campaign Orange The World.
• Tuesday, 25 November 2025 at 18:30, on the pedestrian street of Aghia Sofia, the Deputy Mayor for Social Policy, the Directorate of Social Protection, the Department of Social Policy & Gender Equality, the Municipal Gender Equality Committee, and the Prevention Centers for Addictions and Promotion of Psychosocial Health “SEIRIOS” will be present to provide information to the public.
Symbolically, reusable fabric bags containing notebooks and 2026 calendars with awareness messages will be distributed.
The event will be accompanied by live music from the band “Candy Flip.”
• Wednesday, 26 November 2025 at 19:00, at the theatre hall of the Vafopouleio Cultural Center, the Women’s Counseling Center of KETHI, in collaboration with the Women’s Shelter of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Women’s Shelter of the Municipality of Kordelio–Evosmos, and EKKA, will hold an information/awareness event featuring a screening of the documentary “TACT”, directed by Vania Turner, produced by ONASSIS CULTURE and distributed by Cinedoc.
A special awareness video spot created by the theatre group “NoVan Theater Group” will also be produced and promoted on television and social media.
As part of the awareness campaign, orange ribbons and stickers with the slogan “SAFE TODAY – STRONG TOMORROW” will be distributed in central shops throughout the city.
