School of Aristotle, Isvoria Naousa

At the archaeological site of Nympheon, Isvoria, in the broader area of ancient Mieza, in a gorgeous natural landscape, with running waters, deeply-shaded caves and thick vegetation, lies the School of Aristotle, where the philosopher tutored the future king of Macedonia Alexander, together with other scions of the prominent Macedonian families, philosophy, poetry, mathematics and science. Alexander remained in the School up until 340 BC, when he returned to Pella to act as a regent during the absence of his father, King Phillip II of Macedonia. Despite the short period of the School’s operation, just three years, the co-existence of Aristotle and Alexander, marks the place as a historical site with global flamboyance.
