It is the only Indian cemetery in Greece.
It contains the bodies of Indian soldiers who died during the Great War from 1916 to 1920, that is, 384 Hindu, 107 Indian Muslims, 26 Sikh and 1-3 Indian Christians who served in the British Army during World War I. At the northern part of the cemetery there is a Hindu memorial containing the ashes of 220 soldiers, who were cremated according to their religious rituals and a second memorial for the 130 missing Indians of Macedonian Front and 33 of the British Royal Navy.
