More Information
The courtyard of the Eptapyrgios in the Upper City of Thessaloniki will be filled with bleachers and numbered seats, sound and lighting and a theatrical stage, where we will enjoy a whole month of cultural events, always respecting the history and aesthetics of the monument.
This year, the artistic programming of the 2023 Epitapyrgios Festival opens up to young people and children with the presentation of 2 productions aimed at young people, in order to give them the opportunity to get to know the monument of Epitapyrgios and its charming courtyard.
Nikos Kypourgos signs the music for the opera for young people (and for adults) Silence the King listens, in the context of which a specially designed 10-minute cultural event will be presented.
The poetry evenings will feature two evenings dedicated to the Nobel Prize-winning Greek poet Odysseus Elytis, with poems set to music, performed by Kostas Makedonas and recited by Karyophyllia Karampeti.
Thodoris Marantinis, Evridiki and Myronas Stratis will play jazz at the 2023 Eptapyrgios Festival, with the New Thermi Saxophone Orchestra, creating a unique atmosphere.
While the guitar virtuoso, Kostas Matsigos will present an 8-voice guitar recital, performed by favourite artists with whom he will share the stage.
Maria Farantouri completes 60 years on the Greek music scene this year and this is the occasion for her to celebrate with us at the 2023 Eptapyrgios Festival, with a specially created programme from each period of her career.
Finally, the “Tribute to Thessaloniki Creators” will bring the curtain down on the 2023 Eptapyrgios Festival and this year hosts Dimitris Zervoudakis with the musical tribute: Excluded in Thessaloniki.
The 6 productions of the 2023 Eptapyrgios Festival, signed by the Cultural Centre of the Region of Central Macedonia, will involve 250 artists and will be supported by 45 technicians.
As far as organization is concerned, the long-awaited cultural institution of the summer in Thessaloniki, moves within the framework of the major festivals. Works and artists of international recognition in a unique historical space make up a puzzle that covers a very wide range of artistic events (opera, musical theatre, theatre, poetry, concert).
The Eptapyrgios Festival is, as every year, a special opportunity for entertainment and to visit the monument and learn about its special history.
The Eptapyrgios Festival 2023 is a cultural continuation of the activities of the Cultural Centre of the MCC in historical sites such as the Rotunda, Eptapyrgios, Gingirli Mosque, so that the monuments of Thessaloniki find a place in the everyday life of citizens, not only as museum spaces, but as places of culture and spirit.
The Eptapyrgios Festival is an artistic institution in which the city’s state cultural institutions cooperate and is under the auspices of UNESCO.
The Region of Central Macedonia, aspires through the now established Eptapyrgios Festival 2023, to transform the historical monument of Eptapyrgios into a pole of artistic expression and creation, as well as a pole of attraction for visitors through this cultural institution that will enhance the cultural and tourist power of Thessaloniki, while at the same time will improve both the interior and exterior spaces of the monument in view of the Festival.
The production-organization of the events is underwritten by the Cultural Centre of the Region of Central Macedonia, in cooperation with the Ephorate of Antiquities of the city of Thessaloniki and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The Eptapyrgios Festival is under the auspices of UNESCO.
The artistic direction of the Eptapyrgios Festival 2023 is provided by Athanasios Kolalas.
